Lost Thoughts – Jina Wallwork
This piece is based on Michelangelo’s image of the prophet Jeremiah. In my version this old man is trying to find his thoughts. When the memory is lost, a thought seems impossible to access. The preservation of a thought can only be achieved through creation. The thought must adopt a permanent form. Once it exists as an object, it can no longer be lost. Michelangelo created many great pieces of art, and within his mind, he had many thoughts of different projects. Some would reach completion, but others would have existed only as a thought, and because of this, they are now lost to us. You cannot leave your thoughts to future generations unless they take form in the world.
