Pieces 2 – Jina Wallwork
Life is a constant passage through points of stability and moments of change. Not all change is welcome, and it delivers an explosive force when it arrives. It can shatter a life into many tiny fragments. The forces of destruction break all that we hold dear. We find ourselves focusing on every fragment, trying to understand its shape, desperately trying to return all the pieces to their previous position. We struggle to locate every section because the past cannot be recreated. There is a precious moment of realization where you cease to gaze at what is broken. There is space for something else to be created. The future is waiting, and we choose the pieces we would like to carry forward. Every decision involves a sacrifice. When you hold on to one piece, you lose the space to accept another. We make decisions that reveal deeper truths about who we are. We are surrounded by chaos, so our choices become shaped by instinct and emotion. As we clumsily reach a decision, we also reach out to the pieces we have chosen to retain.
We realize that the choice is not ours, and we must surrender to the changes. As we pick up a fragment, we experience the horror of watching it crumble into nothing. We scoop up the pieces and blow away the dust of what is now lost. Life is forever changed. Out of those fragments, we rebuild our lives and discover new parts that had never been present before. Life is constantly changing, so you can either accept the process or allow yourself to be overwhelmed by every disruption. I try to remember that life is always whole, even when it seems to be in pieces.
