Small Connected World – Jina Wallwork

This painting explores the concept of how your perception of the world can be altered by the connections you make. A connection to a person on the other side of the world can make that distance seem smaller. When you are aware of the connections between people and places, everyone seems to be within reach. If we have fewer connections to others, then the world seems vast. Our perception alters with the connections that we make to people and places. We never fully seem to acquire a full perception of the actual size of the world. The world has been measured and we can learn the numbers, but our concept of the world’s size always seems to be in flux.
