(R)Evolution 2 by Jina Wallwork

The theme, (R)Evolution, seemed like an interesting combination of revolution and evolution. I used a sketch by Charles Darwin as a starting point. I began by recreating his lines. Then, I let the drawing evolve into something different. When I discuss the work or mention the process, the conversation revolves back to that initial sketch. For me, the artwork was an exploration of how ideas circulate.

A notebook page from Charles Darwin.

Charles Darwin’s 1837 sketch, his first diagram of an evolutionary tree from his notebook. The starting point fo Jina’s drawing.
