Darcy 2 by Jina Wallwork
Darcy is a piece of artwork and a piece of instrumental music. Even though the artwork isn’t figurative it still represents the energy of a person. The artwork and the music are both a portrait. Viewed completely, this is portrait of a loved one.
Included in this track is the Ocarina Cocodrillo instrument that was created as part of the metaphor of sound exhibition. The exhibition, held at the Museo del Oro in San José, Costa Rica, displayed a collection of Pre-Columbian instruments. Charly Fariseo worked with these original instruments that dated from 500 BCE to 1550 CE. He sampled their sound and created instruments that could be used in Ableton Live. This gave musicians the opportunity to play these fascinating instruments.

The instrument I used in this track was the ocarina crocodile. An ocarina is a kind of clay whistle and this one was made to share the appearance of a crocodile. I did alter the instrument so it doesn’t sound exactly the same as the original. I wanted to take the sound on a journey from the past into the future.
